Alexandra Hendrikoff

The intense examination of nature, the understanding of life’s cycles and the belief in a cosmic energy that one feels intuitively rather than rationally, stands in the center of the art works of Alexandra Hendrikoff (born 1965 in Bad Reichenhall). She collects components like dandelion seeds, tree lichens, kozo paper and grasses, which constitute the artist’s frail objects, while wandering through nature. With these natural material Hendrikoff adorns in meditative handwork the surfaces and holes of her light paper sculptures, which remind of organs, insect cocoons and underwater creatures. Sometimes it is hard to believe that these objects with all their details are man-made. Looking inside, one can see cells, veins, seeds – essential elements of plants and animated beings. The dimensions of Hendrikoff’s objects range from a few centimeters to three meters, nevertheless, they are light enough to be fixed to the ceiling on almost invisible nylon threads.
